Job Ref No. PD/FM/FEE/2026
Job Summary
Provide on‑site electrical engineering support for safe, reliable operation and maintenance of electrical systems across production facilities and camp infrastructure. Lead electrical fault diagnosis, preventative maintenance execution, technical assurance of contractor work, and support capital/upgrade projects to maintain availability and compliance
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day electrical engineering support for facility and camp systems: power distribution (MV/LV), switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, MCCs, motors, starters and instrumentation interfaces.
- Diagnose and lead resolution of electrical faults and incidents; provide technical direction to operations and maintenance crews during breakdowns.
- Develop, review and implement electrical maintenance plans, preventive maintenance schedules and test regimes (insulation, relay, earth, motor tests).
- Execute and supervise electrical commissioning, shutdowns, isolations, and reinstatement activities in coordination with operations and permit‑to‑work.
- Lead technical inspections, condition monitoring (thermography, vibration, oil analysis), and asset health assessments; recommend remediation or replacement actions.
- Ensure compliance with electrical standards, local regulations and company HSE requirements; verify contractor adherence to safe work practices and electrical tagging/LOTO.
- Prepare and review electrical workpacks, method statements, risk assessments and job hazard analyses for electrical tasks and projects.
- Manage spare parts, critical electrical inventory and liaise with procurement to ensure timely availability of components.
- Provide technical scope and oversight for electrical contractors, approve electrical installation work, and perform quality assurance checks.
- Support small capital projects and upgrades (design input, cable routing, load calculations, earthing, lightning protection and documentation).
- Maintain accurate electrical documentation: single‑line diagrams, schematics, test records, inspection reports and maintenance logs.
- Provide training, toolbox talks and competency assessments for operators and maintenance staff on electrical safety and basic troubleshooting.
- Participate in incident investigations, root‑cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
- Chartered/registered status desirable where applicable.
- Relevant electrical trade experience and field engineering background preferred.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of MV/LV power systems, protection & control (relays, MCCBs), transformers, diesel generator sets, UPS and battery systems.
- Competence in electrical testing and diagnostics: insulation resistance, RCD testing, relay testing, motor testing, thermography and earth resistance.
- Ability to perform load calculations, short‑circuit and coordination studies, earthing design basics and cable sizing.
- Familiarity with electrical standards and codes and hazardous area classifications (Ex/ATEX) where applicable.
- Proficiency with electrical drawings, single‑line diagrams, PLC/MCC interfaces and basic instrumentation knowledge.
- Experience with CMMS for maintenance scheduling and work order management.
- Competence in MS Office and basic engineering software for calculations and documentation.
Behavioural & Interpersonal Skills
- Strong problem‑solving skills and decisive fault‑finding under operational pressure.
- Clear communicator able to liaise with operations, maintenance teams, contractors and management.
- Leadership and coaching capability for onsite technicians and contractors.
- Strong safety focus, methodical, organised and able to prioritise competing demands.
Experience & Conditions
- Minimum 3–7 years’ experience in electrical engineering within industrial, oil & gas, power generation or process plant environments; field/onshore experience preferred.
- Willingness to live in camp conditions on a rotational roster and to work extended hours during faults, shutdowns or emergencies.
- Physically able to access plant areas and perform inspections in varied environmental conditions.
Performance Indicators
- Electrical system availability and reduction in electrical‑related downtime.
- Timeliness and effectiveness of fault resolution and corrective maintenance actions.
- Compliance with inspection and testing schedules and completeness of electrical documentation.
- Number and severity of electrical safety incidents and adherence to permit‑to‑work/LOTO procedures.
- Reduction in repeat failures through effective root‑cause actions and spares management.
Desirable
- Certifications: Relevant and regulartory mandated training, electrical safety, high voltage switching, thermography, protection relay testing.
- Experience with hazardous area installations (Ex/ATEX) and LV/MV protection coordination.
- Familiarity with PLCs/SCADA electrical interfaces and generator/paralleling control systems.
