Job Description:

Job Summary

Provide technical support in geological interpretation, data integration and fieldwork to generate reliable geological inputs for well planning, reservoir characterisation and development studies. Work under supervision to build competency in mapping, stratigraphy, structural interpretation and sample/core description.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and QC geological data (well logs, core descriptions, cuttings, mud logs, outcrop/field observations) for integration into subsurface models.
  • Assist in interpretation of stratigraphy, depositional environments, structural features and correlation of well tops across the asset.
  • Describe cores and cuttings: lithology, grain size, sedimentary structures, cementation, porosity types and sample logging for laboratory testing.
  • Support creation and maintenance of geological maps, cross‑sections, fence diagrams and well correlation panels.
  • Provide geological input to well planning: target definition, landing zones, casing/coring plans and sample acquisition strategy.
  • Assist in integration of petrophysical, geophysical and core data to build facies frameworks and reservoir models.
  • Participate in wellsite geological support when required (sample handling, real‑time data review, tops picking) and manage sample/sample tracking.
  • Prepare technical figures, well reports and concise summaries for internal teams and multidisciplinary reviews.
  • Contribute to data management, version control and adherence to geological interpretation workflows and standards.
  • Undertake training, competency development and participate in peer reviews and technical meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or related discipline.
  • 0–2 years’ relevant experience; internships, field mapping projects or thesis work in geology advantageous.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology and basin analysis.
  • Familiarity with core and cuttings description techniques, petrography basics and sample handling.
  • Competence with geological software and visualization tools (Petrel/GIS/Leapfrog/Wells, or equivalent) desirable.
  • Proficiency in data presentation and analysis using Excel; basic scripting (Python) advantageous.
  • Understanding of wellsite operations, logging data types and integration with petrophysical inputs.

Behavioural & Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong observational and analytical skills with attention to geological detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to present findings and participate in team reviews.
  • Team player, proactive learner, and adaptable to changing priorities and field conditions.
  • Ability to work under supervision and take initiative on assigned tasks.

Experience & Conditions

  • Willingness to undertake fieldwork and wellsite visits; comfortable working in remote locations on occasion.
  • Office environment with potential extended hours to meet project or drilling timelines.

Performance Indicators

  • Accuracy and timeliness of geological deliverables (well reports, correlation panels, maps).
  • Quality of core/cuttings descriptions and adherence to data QC standards.
  • Effectiveness of geological inputs to well planning and reservoir modelling.
  • Progress against competency/training plan and uptake of software/tools.
  • Collaboration with petrophysics, reservoir and drilling teams.

Desirable

  • Field mapping experience, core description coursework or sedimentology projects.
  • Familiarity with GIS, Petrel or other subsurface software and basic scripting for data QA.
  • Participation in professional or academic fieldwork, publications or relevant industry short courses.
