Job Purpose:
Support for all in-country Kenya tax issues including VAT, WHT, PAYE & Customs.
Responsibilities / Key Objectives:
- Deliver overall tax compliance in line with applicable laws and regulations. This includes timely filing of VAT, WHT, PAYE , AFS and CIT returns
- Build relationships with external clients e.g. tax advisors, KRA, NT, MOPM etc to provide excellent planning, consulting and expertise
- Provide expert support to management and business departments for tax-related matters such as VAT, income tax, corporation tax etc
- Manage and review performance of external service providers for tax and compliance areas such as tax consultancy firms
- Identify and mitigate tax risks
- Develop and implement strategic tax planning to achieve tax efficiency
- Manage tax provisions and tax compliance processes
- Develop and maintain a good system of internal controls over all tax processes
- Manage and coordinate tax audits (KRA, Customs etc) and special tax related projects (KRA).
- Reconcile or review tax balances on general ledger (VAT, WHT and payroll Tax Accounts)
- Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
- Implement and execute a seamless process to ensure all tax exemptions are processed in line with laid down regulations.
Education & Experience:
- A University Degree in Business or Law
- ACCA/CPA qualifications.
- At least 3 years working experience in Tax environment
Skills & Competencies:

- Be self motivated to ensure consistent effort without constant supervision
- Be able to plan their work, and integrate it with others, according to the needs of the business
- In-depth knowledge of Customs and Excise Tax, VAT, Income Tax, Payroll taxes and East Africa Community Customs Management Acts.
- Proactive forward-thinking on analysing Tax Laws and Tax changes, and their effects on the organisation.
- Ability to research concepts and Tax applications effectively.
- Ability to advise organisation of Tax effects of all initiatives and projects.
- Ability to handle Corporate Tax issues, deferred tax, wear and tear computations.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and the ability to generate documentation of a high standard
- Good presentation skills.
- Confidentiality and high integrity.
- Able to work with minimum supervision.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Proficiency in accounting.
